Artifact: SWOT Analysis and Action/Evaluation Plan
In ITEC 7410 we were required to develop a vision for technology use in our school, assess our current level of technology integration (including our school's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats), and an action plan for the integration of this strategic plan. My artifact to reflect master of Standard 1.2 is the Action plan which I developed after conducting a Current Reality/ SWOT analysis for technology use in my school.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of element 1.2 as it lays out my in depth findings of my schools current uses of technology including areas where we were weak, and areas where we excelled. After the thorough analysis contained in the SWOT report, I created the Action Plan which reveals my efforts to facilitate the design and development of my technology infused strategic plan.
The Action Plan includes my efforts to communicate the facilitation of the plan. Highlights of this communication include bi-monthly staff technology meetings, a tech newsletter, and a presentation for parents and other stakeholders highlighting our plan. The Action plan also details how our efforts may be evaluated including the timeline for evaluation, person responsible, and cost of implementation.
As I look back on my plan, I realize that much of it is overly ambitious. Requiring all teachers to submit weekly lesson plans to the school technology committee just seemed to add another layer of things to do for teachers who are already struggling to keep up with their other job responsibilities. The same thing applies to administrator walk troughs. I wrote this plan before my school began the TKES/LKES state accountability measures. With all the extra requirements of these state mandated initiatives, my plan to monitor technology integration drops down on the priority list. If I had to make changes, I would start with fewer submitted lesson plans, and fewer administrator "walk-throughs."
The work I put into this plan impacted school improvement. Through this work I was able to present a snapshot of technology use to the school technology committee that pointed to areas where we were weak. We are still weak in some of these areas, but I started a dialogue that will direct our efforts as we strive to integrate technology at higher levels.
