Reflection:
This artifact is a link to a website I created in ITECT 7480 Introduction to Online Learning. This artifact was one week of a two month unit on Latin America in a middle school Social Studies Class.
Mastery of this element is evidenced when candidates model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences aligned with student content standards and student technology standards. This is exactly the purpose of this module. It was created for a fully online class and incorporated numerous sixth grade social studies standards from the Georgia Performance Standards, as well as many Common Core standards. Technology standards are at the core of this class. For starters, the class itself is online. So students will have to learn or already know how to use technology just to be enrolled in the class. Students who take this online module will be required to use many web based tools for research and for collaboration with their classmates and with the teacher.
This artifact is a mid-unit module. I have created other modules that precede this module, and as such, it is presumed that the students already know how to use Wikispaces. Nonetheless, I should probably include a Wikispaces tutorial in each module to make it more navigable for 11-12 year old kids. The creation of this module required me to learn how to use Wikispaces to create a technology-enhanced learning experience. I learned how to embed media and how to use the editor tools to create the module. I learned how to use the discussion board in the wiki, which enhances student learning.
Even though this artifact was designed for a fully online class I will be able to pick pieces of this lesson to use in my blended classes. I'll also be able to share these resources with my fellow content area colleagues, which should help in terms of both faculty development and student learning. Some of the links on this page open to my schools LMS, for which a password is needed.
