1.3 Policies, Procedures, Programs & Funding
Candidates research, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, programs and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision represented in the school, district, state, and federal technology plans and guidelines. Funding strategies may include the development, submission, and evaluation of formal grant proposals. (PSC 1.3/ISTE 1c)
Artifact: Emerging Technology Project - ITEC 7445
As part of my coursework for ITEC 7445 I was required to choose an emerging technology to research and recommend to my colleagues in an effort to convince them to adopt and implement its use. This artifact is a slide show titled the Emerging Technology Project.
My district's technology plan requires that each school to move toward a blended model of instruction where traditional face to face instruction and asynchronous computer based instruction are combined. It is the role of the technology coach to help teachers and students acquire the skills necessary to make this transition. Through my deconstruction of the use of wikis in the classroom, and how they can be used for asynchronous collaboration, I have demonstrated my mastery of Standard 1.3. As you scroll through the slides you will see that this artifact includes the research related to their effectiveness, recommendation for using wikis to as a tool to assist student learning, and information on how they may be implemented. The artifact also includes how wikis may be funded. (I personally recommended Wikispaces.com because this site is free for educators.) There are other fee based subscription services that are inferior to Wikispaces.
Through the process of completing this artifact I learned about the effectiveness of wikis and how powerful they are as a collaboration tool. I discovered a vast amount of research available classroom use of wikis. And I got the opportunity to develop my leadership ability as I recommended a program that directly related to the achievement of our districtwide vision. If I could do the project over again, if I had had more time, I would have included more specific examples of how wikis could be used in different content areas.
The work that went into creating this artifact improved my students' learning. I was able to implement wikis in my classroom and witnessed firsthand that they are highly engaging, provide a way for students to learn from their peers, and offer students a way to engage more deeply with the material.

Artifact: Action/Evaluation Plan - ITEC 7410
Reflection: This document, part 3 of my Technology Planning Project for ITEC 7410, offers recommendations to inform policies, programs, and procedures to support the implementation of the vision mentioned in Standared 1.1. I included this as a secondary artifact since funding strategies are included in the action plan.
