If I ever assume the role of a data leader in my school I will use my new knowledge and resources to convey my new understanding of using data.
- Data can be interpreted in many different ways. If a school is using data to address areas of weakness, it's important to withhold or suspend assigning meaning to data until you dig deeper and consider all possible explanations for underperformance.
- Schools should include as many voices as possible. Collaborative inquiry, tactfulness, and protocols are essential strategies and dispositions if data is to be used effectively.
- Data can be threatening. Open-mindedness among teachers and deft leadership can pave the way to using data effectively to improve student learning.
